A 2-day masterclass examining how tourism can be designed as a durable economic engine across African markets. Sessions move beyond extractive hospitality models to analyse how visitor economies can be structured to build local enterprise, retain value in-country, and create lasting institutional and infrastructure foundations. Participants map current opportunities in East Africa's tourism corridor and leave with a framework for positioning in the sector before mainstream capital arrives.

Elim Shanko

Elim Shanko
MBA, University of Oxford (Saïd Business School) – Facilitator + Founding Partner Regenerative Africa

Elim Shanko is the Founder of Regenerative Africa. Her work centres on African-led sustainable development, executed across technology, financing, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship.

She has led clean-energy and ESG engagements, sustainable development initiatives in emerging regions, worked in financial technology, and researched African human rights law and the finance of infrastructure and development.

Elim holds an MBA from the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School; an MPhil in International Human Rights Law from the University of Pretoria; and a BA in International Relations from Wheaton College.

Andrew Oladoyin is a strategy and operations professional with experience across Africa and the UK, advising and delivering across sectors including infrastructure, energy, financial services, and hospitality.

He laid the groundwork to launch and scale a travel, hospitality and eco-tourism business across Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana, building its market entry and growth strategy across the region. His work has extended into trade and tourism policy engagement in Nigeria and into tackling the country's online travel distribution challenge, where he designed innovative booking solutions in collaboration with international operators.

Andrew holds an MBA from the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School. His focus spans emerging markets, investment, and African trade.

Charles Kwenin is a Ghanaian investor and operator who builds and finances agro-processing businesses across Africa. As Partner at Olive Investment Partners, a West African agribusiness investment company, he has assessed more than 50 agribusinesses in the region.

He has also run one, as General Manager of an organic citrus company in rural Ghana, building a 500-farmer sourcing network and an EU-certified export operation. At Dalberg in Geneva he advised governments and development institutions on attracting private capital to agriculture, designing blended finance and guarantee instruments for the African Development Bank and KfW, and delivered UKAID's 5-year investment strategy for Ghana.

Charles holds a bachelor's degree from Yale and is pursuing an MBA at Oxford. He believes Africa's prosperity is built through production rather than dependency.

Blessing Abeng is a multiple award-winning leader in branding and communications in Africa, empowering brands to tell better stories. She co-founded Ingressive for Good, an edtech nonprofit building a community of over 250,000 African youths, training over 100,000 of them, and placing thousands in jobs.

She was also the former CMO and co-founder of Disha, a tech startup acquired by Flutterwave. As a thought leader in her field, she leverages her personal brand to empower creators to find their identity, build valuable brands, and sell themselves through branding and storytelling.

Awards include Forbes 30 Under 30, UN 100 Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40, and the UK Africa Achievers Award.

MBA, University of Oxford (MA, Ulster University) — Session: Restorative and agro-tourism for people and place

Luisa Romero is a Colombian social entrepreneur, engineer and peacebuilder with over 10 years of experience in the non-profit sector. She is the cofounder of Get Up and Go Colombia, a youth-led organization that contributes to peacebuilding in Colombia by empowering communities most affected by the armed conflict through sustainable tourism, education and social entrepreneurship.

Luisa holds a Master's in International Tourism Management from Ulster University and an MBA from Oxford. Her work focuses on using tourism as a tool for economic development, reconciliation and peacebuilding in regions historically affected by conflict.

She is a recipient of the Chevening Award, the Skoll Scholarship, the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative by the U.S. Department of State, and the RECON Award for Best Social Initiative in Peacebuilding.

MSA, Northwestern University — Session: Building the sports tourism economy

Nathan Shanko is a sports business strategist and founder of Synia Sports Group, a fan development and commercial intelligence consultancy focused on building commercial infrastructure for underserved sports organizations in emerging African markets.

Drawing on a background in software engineering and a Masters of Sports Administration from Northwestern University, Nathan brings a rare combination of technical fluency and sports business expertise to the challenge of growing sports ecosystems in low-resource environments.

His research on the Ethiopian Premier League and East African football markets represents some of the most detailed commercial analysis of the Ethiopian sports ecosystem produced to date, and forms the foundation of the practical frameworks he brings to this session.

Felix Ochefu is a technologist and award-winning serial founder. He is the CEO and Founder of Kahana, a traveltech startup building an AI-powered group travel app that lets groups plan trips, chat, book flights and shop in one place, work for which he was named a TTG 30 Under 30.

Before Kahana, Felix worked as a tech consultant and solutions architect on major digital transformation projects for Lloyds Banking Group and the UK Department of Work and Pensions, leading a Jobcentre implementation that improved workflows for over 800 employees. He also co-founded IdeasLab Global, a student entrepreneurship community that has grown to over 90,000 followers and supported founders building companies worth over $100m.

His work has been covered by the BBC, Spotify and Gulf News, and he has spoken at World Travel Market and Web Summit.
